RE: Fall has arrived at Grand Teton Nat. Park

Beautiful pictures!!!!! Wish we were there. We saw Yellowstone/the Tetons for the first time in June. When we go back, it will definitely be a Fall trip.

RE: Yellowstone NP ????

We were there in June of this year. We stayed 10 days at Fishing Bridge campground. Be prepared for any kind of weather. We got 6 to 8 inches of snow in one day on June 6 and for the next few days it didn't get out of the 30's. It snowed every day after that until we left on June 11. I found a really good book at one of the Yellowstone General Stores....you can find it at www.travelbrains.com . It's the best Yellowstone guidebook I've found (just my luck, I found it on the last day of our trip :-( ) This forum provided us with alot of good information for the trip. I'm sure you'll get lots of good info as well. Here's a link to a Yellowstone forum. The forum on critter sitings is helpful because they seem to be creatures of habit and return to the same places. http://www.yellowstone.net/forums/ Tina

RE: Gatlinburg/Smokies campgrounds

We like Tremont Hills Campground in Townsend. It's the closest campground to Cades Cove and at the entrance to the National Park.(although not the Gatlinburg side) They have full hookups. There are other campgrounds in Townsend that are cheaper, but this is the only one we've stayed at.

RE: Skidaway SP, Ga

We were there two years ago the end of October. Great State Park. We loved it. One word of advice unless things have changed. Take LOTS of mosquito spray..... we weren't expecting them to be so bad in October, but they were. Enjoy!!!!!

RE: Cades Cove at Thanksgiving?????

Chellyoung Glad to hear it's not too busy that time of year. I've heard Pigeon Forge is packed at that time and was afraid Cades Cove would be too. Hopefully we'll see you there.

RE: Cades Cove at Thanksgiving?????

Thanks for all of your advise. I called the ranger station this morning. They said there will be plenty of campers there but we should not have a problem getting a site.

Cades Cove at Thanksgiving?????

We are thinking of camping at Cades Cove campground from the Wednesday before Thanksgiving until the following Monday. We've never camped there and never been to the area at Thanksgiving. Since the sites are first come first serve at that time, do we even have a chance of getting a site there???? I'm assuming that's a busy time in the area, but has anybody stayed at the campground during this time??? Just don't want to drive 5 hours then not get a site. Thanks in advance for any advice.

RE: Help !!! Going to Yellowstone short notice and alone ...

GO!!!! You won't regret it!!! We made the trip this June for the first time. Loved Yellowstone and the Tetons. You asked about a travel guide........ the best one I've found is sold at all of the Yellowstone General Stores and Bookstores. It's by Travel Brain. Lots of pictures and information. It's about $40. You can see it at http://www.travelbrains.com/Destinations/Yellowstone/Yellowstone.html

RE: Do Airstreams really tow better..?

Yes.......we have found that they do tow better. We've owned two other travel trailers and a fifth wheel. We towed the Airstream from Alabama to Yellowstone this summer and were very happy with the way it tows. Trucks passing have little or no effect on the AS. That was not the case with the other two travel trailers we owned. The fifth wheel was almost 13 ft tall, which limited the roads you could travel on. That was our main reason for going back to a travel trailer.... because we like the state parks and "off the beaten path" roads. Like others said, you can get a ton of info on www.airforums.com . Check it out.

RE: Yellowstone

We stayed at Fishing Bridge for 10 days in June. We found the campground to be nice and suited our needs well. The sites were tight (we knew from researching it that they would be), but we were only there to sleep. It is conveniently located. We were there during the 18 inches of total snow that another member mentioned. It was beautiful to see but very cold!!!! I can see from pictures that others have posted this week that it is prettier this time of year, but I can't imagine fighting those summer crowds. Early June was a nice time to go without the crowds. Yellowstone is a beautiful place. We saw lots and lots of critters (and babies too). Hope you have a great time on your trip.

RE: Smoky Mt questions

Tremont Hills is a nice quiet park. Some of the sites are right on the river. It's the closest campground to the National Park and only about 8 or 9 miles from Cades Cove. We've stayed there many times over the years and the staff have usually been friendly. Just be aware that you'll lose your deposit if you cancel reservations for ANY reason. Townsend if much quieter than Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. We stay there because we also try to avoid the crowds.

RE: Fishing Bridge/Flagg Ranch/West Yellowstone

We just got back from Yellowstone. Stayed at Fishing Brige. Yes the sites are closer than any other park we've stayed at. But the convenience more than made up for it. There were not many kids (June 1 thru 10) and everybody that had a dog walked them on a leash. We did not spend much time at the campground so it suited our needs well. The campground was very quiet while we were there. I'm sure it's a different story in July or August. We also stayed at Colter Bay in the Tetons. The sites there were larger. Also a nice park in a great location.

RE: West of St. Louis on I-70 - Where to stay???

Thanks for the info on the state rest areas. Didn't know about that. We've camped for years but always at a campground. Never done the "stop just to sleep" camping............yet. That's about to change on our way to Yellowstone.

West of St. Louis on I-70 - Where to stay???

We are heading to Yellowstone from Alabama the end of this month. Trying to make it just past St. Louis MO on the first day. Does anybody know of a place to stay just off of I-70. Walmart or Flying J would be fine. Or a campground convenient to the interstate where we wouldn't have to unhook. Just plan to sleep a little and head out again early the next morning. Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Stone Mountain Park GA???

We have stayed there several times and enjoy the park. As others have said, some of the sites are hard to get into and unlevel. We've always stayed on the loop around the pool. All of those sites are level and will hold any size rig. If you stay in any other loop, bring lots of blocks or whatever you use to level the trailer.
